Frequently Asked Questions:
Our Guidance Counsellor has compiled this list of FAQ that she comes across in her job. I hope these will be helpful. In addition we have put a PDF of the parent handbook on this page.
1. Will my daughter get homework every night?
She will have some homework to de every night but not necessarily from every subject.
2. How long should she be spending doing homework at year 9?
20 - 30 minutes a night.
3. What do I do if my daughter tells me she is being bullied at school, including cyber bullying?
Inform either her Dean, Mrs Morgan; DP or Guidance Councellor.
4. How will I know if my daughter is keeping up to date with her work?
Your first port of call would be your daughters form teacher or her Dean. Her first report that comes out will give a good indication of whether your daughter is having trouble keeping up.
5. Will parents always be told if there is a concern about their daughter?
Yes
6. What do I do if my daughter gets into the wrong crowd?
That is something you need to discuss with her yourself. However, if you feel uncomfortable about this you can raise your concerns with her Dean, DP or Guidance Counsellor.
7. Can my daughter change form classes to be with her friends?
In most instances no unless there are other mitigating circumstances.
8. What if my daughter needs to leave school during shcool hours?
She needs a note from you and she signs out through the Student Office. You can also email or phone the Student Office. Texts are not always advisable as we don't always know the text is from you. If we think it is suspicious we will contact you to confirm.
9. Can my daughter leave school early to catch trains and buses?
In general no. However, one off incidents are acceptable as long as we have a note, phone call etc from you.
10. What do I do if my daughter refuses to come to school?
Contact her Dean, DP or Guidance Councellor and let us know. Depending on the circumstances one of us can talk to her either by phone or in the car if she won't get out. If it becomes an on going issue one of the options we have is getting District Truancy Services involved.
